Based on Wikipedia, sustainable development is defined as an organizing principle that aims to meet human development goals while also enabling natural systems to provide necessary natural resources and ecosystem services to humans.
In the first class, Dr Suhaimi explained the course, course outline and its assessment specifically to the class. In order to achieve sustainable development in our country, I also learned about the importance of striking a balance between economic development, social sustainability, and environmental conservation. Failure to maintain a balance in this aspect will result in unsustainable resource exploitation, which represents ineffective resource management. The lecturer in the class also mentioned the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
This class has taught me that everyone has a role to play in achieving sustainable development. For example, as a student, I can carry out my responsibilities in my immediate surroundings, which is the university, by keeping the environment clean. To improve waste management, I can incorporate the 3R concept into my daily consumption. Furthermore, a clean environment can lead to good health because people are disease-free.
In Islamic view, a muslim must be amanah with the responsibilities assigned by Allah SWT.
Allah created a world that is perfectly balanced on the basis of sustainability and circularity. Man must maintain this balance by acting moderately, thoughtfully, and justly. As such, he is tasked with cultivating the earth in a sustainable manner while maintaining ecological balance.
“Thus We have made you trustees (khulafaa) on the earth after them, to see how you would act.”
